The Global Debates

Why take part

Why should our school participate?
Some of the dignitaries who could watch your debateDue to national and international promotion, participating in this initiative will put your school on the map in your region, state or country and world. On top of that this project offers your students a unique opportunity to develop life skills and participate in an international activity  where they feel they matter and can make a change. It is our experience that these students become more involved in  school and community activities as a direct result of these activities. They are also more successful in getting to colleges and at pursuing careers of their choice.

On top of that the schools that earn the most points will win the yearly final prize. This is your chance to offer your students international exchange – an all expenses paid trip to the IDEA Youth Forum, which will take place from July 19-August 1 in Istanbul, Turkey. Apart from getting to know the city of Istanbul, they will meet other students and teachers from over 40 countries of the world to engage in discussions workshops and social activities that will change your life.  So help your school be a place to realize and develop students’ potential to their maximum. Let their own initiative be their only limitation in making the space around them a better place.

How can I make a difference by joining in?
Not only will this initiative help you understand the issues underlying international migration, but you will be able to impact life of your community. Are you fed up listening to people in charge about what is best for you and people around you? Design your own plan, debate it with others, make it happen and let everyone know!

What’s in it for me?
You can learn more about the problems you and people around you face and help find solutions to these problems. By debating them, organizing events to address them and informing others about these issues, you learn how to present yourself, argue for what you believe in and how to work in a group to advocate for a change. These are skills that you will need in your future career, no matter what you end up doing.

On top of long-term personal development you can also win great prizes! Schools who participate in the points activities can compete for a yearly final prize.  This is your chance to meet other students and teachers from over 40 countries of the world to engage in discussions workshops and social activities that will change your life.
