The Global Debates are a year-long initiative developed to give high school students and their schools an opportunity to actively participate and initiate public discussion around critical international issues. It is also a platform to exchange views and share course of action that needs to be taken around the world to combat these issues.
During the two Global Debates Campaigns: October – December 2010 and February– April 2011 schools engage in organizing public debates, submitting essays, photos, videos and organizing public service events on the topic of international migration. Each activity organized by a school is awarded points and the schools, which collect the highest number of points will win amazing prizes – including a trip from the schools to IDEA International Debate Youth Forum in Istanbul Turkey in July- August 2011.
In order to reach as many schools as possible IDEA is seeking partnerships with organizations that will aid in spreading information, recruiting schools and informing their constituency regularly. In order for The Global Debates to be truly Global we would like to ask also for your help!
There are many ways to help:
- send regular The Global Debates e-newsletter prepared by IDEA to your network
- actively seek out schools that you think might be interested or have participated in an international project like The Global Debates
- publish a newspaper/TV or radio advertisement on the Global Debates; our toolkits will help you with creating one or simply use the press release we have submitted to the local broadcasting station in Uganda
The tools section offers many materials that will help you with informing, recruiting and retaining your members to be part of the Global Debates. On top of that you are welcome to use these guides to help you with getting your pressing themes discussed. We are interested in your feedback, so please do let us know!
