Migration to New Zealand in decline

The number of migrants that seek to enter New Zealand continues to fall. The New Zealand Herald cites two main reasons for this – the aftermath of the earthquake as well as the larger job security offered by the island nation’s larger neighbour, Australia.

However, according to the article, economists believe the slowing pace of migration would help to alleviate future demand for housing, as the country recovers from the decline in the construction industry and the amount of housing rendered useless or dangerous from the earthquake.
