The Global Debates

About the initiative

High school students debatingThe Global Debates are a year-long initiative developed to give high school students and their teachers an opportunity to actively participate and initiate public discussion around critical international issues. It is also a platform to exchange views and share course of action that needs to be taken around the world to combat these issues. The initiative consists of 2 campaigns taking place from October to December and from February to April. The main theme for the school year 2010/2011 is international migration. The fall campaign for US high schools is focused on the Ground Zero Mosque. Any U.S. or international high school (grades 9-12, ages 14-19) can participate in the Global Debates. Register your school online now!In the past 3 years we had schools in more than 90 countries participate in the Global Debates. Make sure you and your community  are represented this year too!

Each fall and spring, high school students in over 90 countries participate in the Global Debates by hosting a public discussion or debate on a specific global issue.  But they don’t just stop there!  Schools take their debates to action by organizing local service projects in their schools or communities, getting the attention of local press, engaging their elected leaders, and creating thought-provoking videos about the issue at hand. Teams that register and actively compete are eligible to win prizes.
